Sunday, June 13 (7
pm) to Saturday, June 19 (1pm)
Blessed is the one
who shall feast in the kingdom of God. A meal is not so much about food
as it is about people. In all meals, it is the guest list, not the menu,
that matters.
Every meal reveals aspects of the kingdom of God, where guests are welcomed,
people share with one another, broken covenants are renewed and all are
reconciled.
Meals permeate the entire fabric of Christian life. Every meal with Jesus
is part of the origins of the Eucharist and has implications for the life
of the church.
A story of meals and journeys. Table talk in Luke's Gospel: call
to conversion, the welcome accorded to sinners, the presence of women,
the quality of hospitality and the value of service.
Why does Luke tell us about Jesus' eating habits? What is so important
about eating with others; is there more to it than meets the eye?
We will ponder several meal stories and enter into the mind and heart
of Jesus. In a guided retreat, we will reflect of meals that Jesus enjoyed
and the teaching that took place around the table.
A meal, however simple, was considered hospitality's primary expression.
