Parish Home Ministry of Care Program

Wednesdays (7:30 - 9:30 pm)
October 29, November 5, November 12, November 19, November 26

This is a program for responding to the needs of the sick, elderly, homebound, and bereaved members of the Parish Community.

Not all parishes have enough participants to offer training for this program in their parish, so the John Paul II Centre is offering the following for individuals from various parishes in the diocese.

A Certificate of Attendance will be issued for those who attend ALL sessions. Interested persons may register for one, two or all sessions.

October 29 - Our Call to Service - Emil Kutarna
This session will help us ponder God’s call to us. What are my unique gifts to be shared with others?

November 5 - Praying with Others - Sister Audrey Daoust
This session will help us find the words that often allude us, by teaching some techniques in spontaneous prayer.

November 12 - Grief and Grieving - Dolores Fehr
Losses are of many kinds, such as the loss of a loved one due to death, divorce, a child leaving home, a job or physical disability. Participants will discover how to help others who are grieving, by reflecting on a loss in their own lives.

November 19 - Sacrament of the Sick - Father John Weckend
What is the sacrament of the sick and what is its purpose? Discover how this sacrament developed over the centuries and how to bring communion to the homebound.

November 26 - Communication and Visiting - Gladys McElwee and Karen Ziegler
Often we don’t know what to say or do when we are with sick or grieving persons. This session will lessen this fear and the need to fix things. Participants will learn to have confidence and courage just to be with those who are suffering.

Cost: All sessions $50 (before Oct. 8 - $45) Individual sessions - $10 per night
Parish discount (all sessions): $125 (3 - 4 persons) (before Oct. 8 - $120)
