Women in Early Christianity

Wednesday, October 15 (7:30 - 9:30 pm)

This session will explicate the role of women and their contribution to Christianity as a new religious movement in the ancient Greco-Roman World.

It will include commentary on the social and historical context of the ancient world and locate Christianities with this context. It will also involve discussion of the figuring of women in Christian writings and their contribution to Christianities.

The figure of Mary Magdalene as a potential authoritative figure (in her erasure) within the new religious movement will also be explored.

Facilitated by Darlene Juschka

Darlene is Co-ordinator and Associate Professor of Women’s Studies at the University of Regina. Her areas of emphasis are myth, symbol and ritual, ancient religions, with particular focus on women. She is also an accomplished author and publisher.
