This session will examine some of the key characteristics of new religious
movements. Participants will examine the notion of cult and
the question of why people are attracted to new religions. Special attention
will be paid to the unique features of New Age religions (including Neopaganism
and Wicca) and the role of women in these movements.
Facilitated by Dr. Leona Anderson
Leona is a professor in the Department of Religious Studies at the University
of Regina. She teaches Hinduism and is the director and producer of the
documentary The Ganesh Festival. She is currently working on a project
related to the role of image worship in the context of South Asian religious
traditions.
