Parish Home Ministry of Care Program

Wednesday Evenings - November 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 (7:00-9:00 p.m.)
This is a program for responding to the needs of the sick, elderly, homebound, and bereaved members of the Parish Community. Not all parishes have enough participants to offer training for this program in their parish, so the John Paul II Centre is offering the following for individuals from various parishes in the diocese. A certificate of Attendance will be issued for those who attend ALL sessions. Interested persons may register for one, two or all sessions.

Our Call to Service November 2 – Vince Morrison
This session will help us ponder God’s call to us. What are my unique gifts to be shared with others?

Sacrament of the Sick November 9 – Fr. John Weckend
What is the sacrament of the sick and what is its purpose? Discover how this sacrament developed over the centuries and how to bring communion to the homebound.

Communicating and Visiting November 16 – Karen Zeigler & Gladys McElwee
Often we don’t know what to say or do when we are with sick or grieving persons. This session will lessen this fear and the need to fix things. Participants will learn to have confidence and courage just to be with those who are suffering.

Grief and Grieving November 23 – Dolores Fehr
Losses are of many kinds, such as the loss of a loved one due to death, divorce, a child leaving home, a job or physical disability. Participants will discover how to help others who are grieving, by reflecting on a loss in their own lives.

Praying with the Sick – (How to be there for the sick, spiritually) November 30 – Sr. Audrey Daoust, SCSL
This session will help us find the words that often elude us, by teaching some techniques in spontaneous prayer.

Cost: $50 or $10 each

Women in Scripture

Although mostly disregarded in their patriarchal societies, the women of the Hebrew and Christian scriptures have a voice. This session will feature presentation, dialogue, reflection and a touch of creativity.

Pastoral Counselling & Spiritual Direction (Similarities & Differences)

Saturday, November 26 (9:30-11:30 a.m.)
Pastoral care consists of broad activities of pastors, and in recent years lay persons, who minister to individuals, society and other systems of life. Pastoral Counselling and Spiritual Direction are both modes of pastoral care. The primary purpose of spiritual direction is to help people grow in an affective, conscious and explicit relationship with God. Pastoral counselling attempts to help persons to help themselves through a growing understanding of their inner conflicts abut does so with an openness to the role God plays within their life. This workshop will look at some of the similarities and differences of these two modes of pastoral care with regard to models and processes, how similar skills and tools are used, and pre-requisites and characteristics of spiritual directors and pastoral counsellors. Are you called to this?

Facilitator – Marlene Miller
Marlene has been active as a spiritual director since she was commissioned by the Archdiocese of Regina in 1994 after completing a two-year training program. She has organized and been a part of six-day personally directed retreats and has given presentations and reflection evenings on various spirituality topics. In 2004 she completed the Pastoral Studies Program at Campion College at the University of Regina.

John Paul II Centre - 20th Anniversary Brunch
Celebrating 20 years of Hospitality
Sunday, November 27 (11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.)

The John Paul II Centre is celebrating its 20th Anniversary of Hospitality. This Centre has been a place where people find peace and comfort. Our Adult Education and Spiritual Renewal Centre is the home for Lay Ministry Formation Program which equips our parishioners with skills which will help them to minister as lay people in our church today. It also offers workshops to nourish God’s people with spiritual food on their daily journey. We also host the Regina Catholic Teachers for the “Understanding Our Faith Series” yearly. The John Paul II Centre has over the years been a beacon of light for the seeker, the lonely, the griever, and for the person searching to enrich her/his life with God. We are thankful to have this hospitable place to welcome God’s people who want to enrich their lives with “The Good News”.

Details about the “Brunch” will be announced in the parish bulletins. Keep Watching!!!
