Art is an integral
part of Japanese Buddhism, from its inception in the sixth century. It
reflects the deep variations of Buddhist practice and faith found in Japan.
This workshop will examine some aspects of Buddhist art, mainly painting
and sculpture, from these vantage points.
While the West has known and admired Zen painting, this seminar will attempt
to relate other aspects of Japanese Buddhist art that are no less marvellous.
Facilitated by Gail Chin
Gail is an assistant professor of art history at the University of Regina.
She received her PhD in Japanese Buddhist art history from UCLA and has
published articles and catalogues relating to the topic of Asian art.
Cost: $10.
