In this workshop, some background information will be provided to participants
regarding the impact of colonization on the culture, traditions, ceremonies
and languages of Aboriginal people of Canada. Elder Betty will, through
discussion and storytelling, share her knowledge regarding holistic philosophy
(sometimes referred to as Medicine Wheel philosophy) as well as knowledge
regarding traditional ceremonies and practices in First Nations communities.

Carrie is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Science at the First
Nations University of Canada teaching Indian Health Studies as well as
selected Environmental Health courses. Carrie is of Metis ancestry and
resides in Regina.
Elder Betty is well known in the community for her healing where she also
takes an active role serving on many boards where Aboriginal issues need
to be addressed. She is very knowledgeable on many traditional teachings.
