Native Ecosystems - Human Values

Tuesday, March 1 (7:00 - 9:00 p.m.)

There is an increasing need for an articulation of an explicit guiding philosophy that can inform the discussion of “what is native”, “what species should live where and why”, and “how can we evaluate and promote the (intrinsic?) value of native species”.

In this session, we will explore these questions, beginning with examples of species introductions and the consequences, a discussion of the historical and biological contexts of GMO’s, and an examination of the environmental principles that might provide guidance.

Facilitated by Dr. Mary Vetter

Mary is a Professor of Biology at Luther College, where she has taught introductory biology classes, Plant Taxonomy, Plant Diversity, Quaternary Ecology, and various field courses over the past 20 years.

Cost: $10 Registration deadline Feb.27.
