The Spirituality Revolution and Social Justice Work

Postponed from Thursday, March 22, 2007
7 to 9 pm New Date to be Announced
with Fr. Peter Bisson s.j.

“I’m spiritual but not religious” – have you heard this said before? Have you said it yourself? Europe and North America have seen a growing interest in subjectivity -- using it, cultivating it, etc.

In religion, this shift has produced a growing interest in spirituality and religious experience. Another shift happening at the same time is the growing concern for social justice. These two shifts have been coming together in some Christian social justice groups, which could transform their work in major ways.

What does this change look like? Will this potentially more “religious” way of proceeding make cooperation across religious and ideological differences easier or more difficult?

The presenter, Peter Bisson, S.J. claims that such cooperation will probably be strengthened. He will draw on his own experience of such innovations in the social justice work sponsored by his religious order, the Jesuits, in various parts of the world, including Canada.

Presenter:
Fr. Peter Bisson, S.J. is a priest in the Catholic religious order the Society of Jesus(the Jesuits), an assistant professor of religious studies at Campion College at the University of Regina, and director of the Jesuit Forum for Social Faith and Justice in Toronto.
